Networking allows jobs to come to you rather than worry about finding and applying for jobs on your own.

 Common sense is not always common practice


Progress on Q&A Event  
I discussed with my team the information that I collected and noted. It was in a Google Docs document that I collated with key points and information to do with local youth, housing, and arts and culture. They were very impressed by my efforts and contribution.

 I made some minor tweaks to the document before exporting it into a PDF file and importing that into the OneDrive SharePoint that Oisin organised for the Q&A event. The link to the OneDrive was on Discord.

 My team has been tasked to record question from students at this campus who will be absent at the Q&A event. It has also been suggested for different students for represent absent students' questions. For filming interviews, we were initially going to be filming students at both campuses, but the class has insisted on focusing on students at the main campus.

 When filming interviews, we have the enrollment to vote papers with us on hand.

 We are desired to do research on the candidates and what issues they agree or disagree on

I have a Wix site, but I do recognise that I would need to make extensive changes because it promotes me as regionally-based individual in the Canterbury region, which I was before studying here at SIT. I will need to change it to Invercargill and add new infromation from since then.

 I tried to find information on the candidates' policies, but found nothing at first. I can say that I at least tried to. Rebecca Amundsen's public talk won't happen until after the next class for this paper.

 Stuff believes that there is some political tension between Shadbolt and his deputy. This could likely just be speculation. His deputy, Rebecca Amundsen is also running for mayor.

 Tim Shadbolt has published his own article concerning the local election in Stuff and The Southland Times.

 In October 2018, Darren Ludlow was still deciding whether to run for mayor. The image below show the people who were keen or undecided to run for mayor of Invercargill as of October last year. It also include the candidates for other city and district councils that are close by.




Rebecca Amundsen 

  • She wants communities to be empowered by their local leadership and change in how decision making is made in the City Council
  • She approves of the housing being developed by Habitat for Humanities
  • I read through her most recent campaign newsletter, but there was nothing that was clear to note about.
  • I found her public talk being advertised on her Facebook page
  • She is the only Invercargill mayoral candidate (with the exception of Sir Tim Shadbolt) that is active on social media about her campaign.

Interesting quote from her concerning running against Sir Tim Shadbolt
In April, Bond told Stuff a comment Shadbolt made to her in 2018 inspired her to stand for the election.
"He did make a flippant comment saying wouldn't it be great if you stood against me, being a former NZ First MP, and [with him] being a former NZ First candidate. It's played on my mind since last July," Bond said at the time.

22/06/2020 'Buffering' Exhibition We forgot about having the exhibition map done and sent to Kathryn last Friday. We will keep that in mind for our next exhibition. I reminded the groups, especially the design team about the sandwich boards at the RAW Gallery that could be used to promote the exhibition There was confusion over submitting prints to be printed for our exhibition. I wasn't sure where to send it to for printing, to Rachel (like the L7 animation students) or James. I did however send the TIFFs of my prints to James just in case. Rachel informed us about placing our prints on foam core, it's a type of foam board that also sticks to the wall. There is a catch though, we have to cut them and stick our print(s) to the foam core ourselves. I gotta say that a print looks better on foam core than on its own. Rachel also warned us to have confidence while cutting the foam core or otherwise the edge will look uneven and rough. This will be quite challenging ...

Digital Video - Lockdown Week 4

15/04/2020 I heard back from James and gave his advice on my concerns, which is that I look for images and footage of the climate strike by school student and use that as B-roll.  B-roll is not always meant to be of a good quality. I may research into potential ethical considerations on consent for using other people's work.  James reckons I will be fine with going ahead with this as long as I focus on what the subject is about and interviews with key players. I could use their work and have interviews in voice-over, however I will consult with the course outline to double check what is required of me to do for my film project. He also reckons my main concern is not being able to film climate strikes, which was only part of the problem. However, the B-roll could still convey drama and urgency depending on its content. BVA703 Research - Lockdown Week 3

10/04/2020 At midnight brushing my teeth, I suddenly came up with options to capture amongst the crowd stuff to convey urgency of my subject, what if it could achieved with green screen or animation.  Green screen would be a big undertaking and would require each person being filmed individually with a long lens, which would be potentially too consuming on time and resources. A long lens would be necessary to feed into post-COVID-19 health and safety. Animation would require at least one animator depending on the time needed to animate sequences needed. The sequence would ideally be in a sketchy style similar to  Stay Close  or  Dear Basketball .  I would need to think carefully about this since it would need to not disrupt the style and tone of the live-action parts. The animation would need to be in sequences to limit the workload of the animator and I don't want it all animated because that's beyond me and letting animation students ...
