BVA603 - Week 5

06/08/2019

Bo told me that filming didn't end up happening over the past week, so we went and tried to film the student interviews today. Bo had us provided with a Sony X200 and shotgun mic. We interviewed students at the Downtown campus to start with, and then went onto interviewing students at the main campus on Tay Street. I gave myself a go at being the cameraman for the first interview at the Downtown campus, but I had a problem keeping still, so I switched to being the boom operator. I was the boom operator for a few student interviews until I needed a break from that.

During the student interviews at the main campus, I was the BTS photographer using Bo's Nikon DSLR. I took as many photos as I could and stayed as long as I could before I could have some time to get some food and go back to class for 'Afternoon Delights'. Most students we interviewed spoke against the polytech merger, whereas a few international students spoke in support of the merger.

Bo will be editing the footage altogether in his spare time. His deadline is Saturday at the very latest, so it's not left at the last minute for the marketing team. My job on the day of the Q&A event will be being the backup camera crew.

This would be good to pursue despite being based in Auckland and favoring other tertiary institutes other than SIT.

This would be perfect for me because it's in Oamaru, which is an hour drive from my hometown, Timaru.

Park Road Post Production had potential, but it's very expensive and it's currently TBC for their 10 day intensive that they have for film students.

I had looked into Crewlist and registered on that site/app, but I couldn't find anything coming up or any opportunity next year in the local film industry aside from the Avatar sequels. The internships for those movies have already been advertised and filled earlier this year.

Bo

I came across Bo on campus today and I asked about his progress on editing together the student interviews, but he was a bit behind and was trying to make up for it

Bo
I came across Bo on campus again, but he had the flu and was doing what he could on putting together the student interviews. He did manage to get my BTS photos to us through Discord and OneDrive.

In hindsight, I would had helped him by editing half of the footage.

Amazon Studios - Lord of the Rings
Amazon Studios is an American film and television production company and is a subsidiary of Amazon and often have their original content distributed through their online streaming service, Amazon Prime.

I could potentially have an opportunity to work as an intern on their production of the Lord if the Rings TV series next year.
Filming for a prequel television series of the Lord of the Rings films and books is expected to start production in New Zealand next year. The show has been commissioned for 20 episodes. In July this year, it was confirmed that pre-production had begun at two film studios outside of Auckland (Kumeu and Auckland Film Studios) and it's believed that Queenstown will play a big role in the making of this TV series and that a film studio will be built there for the production. It has also been confirmed that some of the filming for the show will be Auckland. It won't be in Wellington because of the Avatar sequels being filmed there.
