 Reflection on last weeks' subcommittee minutes
No progress has yet been made on the judges profiles, as far as I know. I double checked Discord and there is a profile on our visual art judge completed and tagged to the marketing team. It looks okay and I have no further comment on the profile. I believe we as a team didn't make as much progress with our marketing since we have been busy with project work. It's interesting to see captions on our videos because I have liked watching movies and shows with captions since I was 7, at least it got me good at spelling in primary school and made me understand movies better at a young age than without captions.

 I have to wait and see until tomorrow whether any progress has been made on that Instagram thing that Luqman mentioned to us about last week.

 I think it's crucial not to make the posts all about the third year students and so I agree with the motion that work by lower year level students to be teased on social media after we have sorted the entry forms.
In the committee meeting, I put my hand up to help put the posters up around campus, promoting entering works into Think & Create. I asked the committee for an update on the VIPS for Think & Create and apparently had been done so far. Myself and the marketing team were keen to take up that task and Bo looked to me to help provide important people in the political spectrum

 We also advised about when it comes to submitting our work, the dialogue must be politically correct and limit profanity. Fine by me since I gave myself a PG-13 rule, in which my films have only have one F-bomb.

 I popped by Liz Craig's office and they were thrilled to hear about Liz being on the VIP list at this stage and they recommended to invite Mark Patterson to give it political diversity. Mark Patterson is a NZ First List MP, based in Gore and is a staunch support of SIT Telford, and the only NZ First MP based in the South Island.  The entry form posters have already been put up by others who put their hand up a few days ago. 
I wasn't involved because I wasn't told when we were all going to do it and so there was limited communication on that task between my myself, others, and the marketing team.
The posters look good though.


I have been starting to think about ideas for the subject of my third year research
It involved around the documentary genre because I'm considering doing a documentary for my solo project next year
  • How can a letterbox aspect ratio make a documentary cineamtic?
  • How can a letterbox aspect ratio bring drama to a documentary?
  • How can a letterbox aspect ratio contribute to a documentary being cinematic?

22/06/2020 'Buffering' Exhibition We forgot about having the exhibition map done and sent to Kathryn last Friday. We will keep that in mind for our next exhibition. I reminded the groups, especially the design team about the sandwich boards at the RAW Gallery that could be used to promote the exhibition There was confusion over submitting prints to be printed for our exhibition. I wasn't sure where to send it to for printing, to Rachel (like the L7 animation students) or James. I did however send the TIFFs of my prints to James just in case. Rachel informed us about placing our prints on foam core, it's a type of foam board that also sticks to the wall. There is a catch though, we have to cut them and stick our print(s) to the foam core ourselves. I gotta say that a print looks better on foam core than on its own. Rachel also warned us to have confidence while cutting the foam core or otherwise the edge will look uneven and rough. This will be quite challenging ...

Digital Video - Lockdown Week 4

15/04/2020 I heard back from James and gave his advice on my concerns, which is that I look for images and footage of the climate strike by school student and use that as B-roll.  B-roll is not always meant to be of a good quality. I may research into potential ethical considerations on consent for using other people's work.  James reckons I will be fine with going ahead with this as long as I focus on what the subject is about and interviews with key players. I could use their work and have interviews in voice-over, however I will consult with the course outline to double check what is required of me to do for my film project. He also reckons my main concern is not being able to film climate strikes, which was only part of the problem. However, the B-roll could still convey drama and urgency depending on its content. BVA703 Research - Lockdown Week 3

10/04/2020 At midnight brushing my teeth, I suddenly came up with options to capture amongst the crowd stuff to convey urgency of my subject, what if it could achieved with green screen or animation.  Green screen would be a big undertaking and would require each person being filmed individually with a long lens, which would be potentially too consuming on time and resources. A long lens would be necessary to feed into post-COVID-19 health and safety. Animation would require at least one animator depending on the time needed to animate sequences needed. The sequence would ideally be in a sketchy style similar to  Stay Close  or  Dear Basketball .  I would need to think carefully about this since it would need to not disrupt the style and tone of the live-action parts.
